Like Krishna, why is Lord Rama never shown adoring cows and other animals? Why only Narayana (Vishnu) & Krishna are addressed as Govinda but not Lord Rama? Wonderful question… But who said that? I never heard of this in my lifetime. Or is it another propaganda to demean Lord Ram calling him meat eater or what not using fake translations of hindu scriptures. Sorry to burst your bubble because as far as I have read the authentic translations of Hindu scriptures, it do not mention any such things. Be it Valmiki Ramayana (which is considered to be the most authentic source of the life history of Lord Rama) or other sacred texts, the oneness of Lord Rama, Lord Krishna and Lord Vishnu has been stated everywhere. In many sections of Valmiki Ramayan alone it has been mentioned. So all the epithets of Lord Krishna/Vishnu applies to Lord Rama also and vice versa. [Valmiki Ramayana 6-117-13,15] You alone are Lord Narayana, the glorious God who wields discus (Sudarshan chakra). Your are the divine boar with a single tusk, the conqueror of Your bygone as well as future enemies. (13) You are the Wielder of the Sharanga bow, the Subduer of the senses, the Inner Controller and the Supreme Person; You alone are the invincible Vishnu, the wielder of a sword called Nandaka and You alone are Lord Krishna as well endowed with great might. (15) gobraahmaNahitaarthaaya : Lord Ram is mentioned as protector of Cows and Brahmans [Valmiki Ramayana 1-26–5] I am ready to effectuate the bidding of an inestimable sage like you, for the welfare of cows and Brahmans, and for the advantage of this province." So said Rama to sage Vishvamitra. In Balkand of Ramcharitmanas, it is stated that one of the reasons for Lord Rama's incarnation is for the welfare and protection of cows. बिप्र धेनु सुर संत हित लीन्ह मनुज अवतार। निज इच्छा निर्मित तनु माया गुन गो पार॥ 192॥ The Lord has taken a human avatar for the welfare of Brahmins, Cows, Demigods and Sages. He has created His body (divine form) by His own will, which is beyond illusionary energy (Maya), modes of nature (goodness, passion and ignorance) and material senses. From Shri Ram Sahasranama — From Shri Ram Karnamrutam — Moreover, in Ramanandi Sampradaya, there is a popular belief that Lord Krishna came from Mathura to Gokul specifically for completing his previous promise given in Rama Avatar. In Treta Yuga, Lord Ram himself declared that one of his principal reasons for reincarnation is for protection of Gow Mata so after that Prithvi Devi personally took the form of Gow Mata and pleaded Lord Vishnu for him to take an avtaar and save her from demons like, Ravana. (mentioned in Ananda Ramayana, Srimad Bhagavatam) However, because of his status as prince and later as King of Ayodhya, he could not actively served cows. Since there were enough dedicated servants to do this, hence whenever Lord Rama tried to serve the cows the servants would lovingingly refrain him. Due to Lord Ram's other crucial unfinished tasks, he left his campaign for protection of Gow Mata for Dwapur Yuga when Sri Krishna arrived in Mathura. In the backdrop of agricultural fields of Vrindavan area, Lord Krishna took on himself to herd and safeguard cows. Such was his fascination about Gow Matas. Hence we can now say that Lord Krishna got the epithets of Govinda due to Lord Rama's wish only. Thank You. Jay Govinda. Jay Gopala. Jay Shri Ram
