What is chandrahas? Chandrahas is the shastra of Shiva given to Ravan as a boon (in the form of a curse ) according to Ramayana. Ravan was granted the sword by Shiva after pleasing him with Soma hymns . “Thus spoke Ravana, and Shankara bestowed an exceedingly bright sword upon him, famed as Chandrahasa Thereafter the Lord of Creatures accorded him a further lease of life and, handing him the weapon, Shambhu said Shiva also warned him not to use it for any dushkarma and Ravan performed shastra Pooja to it before going the war . When kartavirya disrupted the Pooja , Ravan was utterly defeated by him. “‘Never treat this weapon with contempt, if you dost disregard it, it will assuredly return to me!’ As long as Ravan had chandrahas in his possession he remained undefeated . Thereafter, O Rama, he began to range the entire world subduing the foremost of warriors, irresistible in combat and those who were filled with courage and boiling with ardour, who dreamt only of war and who perished with their troops by refusing to submit to him.
