An interesting Story

Hi friends ....thought you guys might be interested...a long read but I assure you it has a connect with us....The other day I was lecturing at college about the Bauhaus School in Germany..which was a Design school as some of you might know was founded by the great architect Walter Gropius...who later moved to the US and taught at Harvard. Well...interesting fact is that one of his students at Harvard was Achyut Kanvinde from Maharashtra...who not only graduated at Harvard but carried the legacy of the Bauhaus philosophy (which I am a great fan of) back to India..and became a very fine architect....where he joined the CSIR...now the interesting fact is my father worked all his life in this beautifully modern designed building and the Labs associated with CSIR ..all designed by Mr Kanvinde...and in 1958...when my dad joined the organization he got to meet Mr Kanvinde. Interestingly in the sixties he came to know that the same architect was designing the two schools in Delhi ...St Xaviers and Carmel Convent School...which he completed between 1961 and 63....so that's how my father got the information about the school...a building based on the Bauhaus Philosophy..Asymmetry, Cubic form, Flat roofs, Smooth, unadorned surfaces and Exposed material....a fact we were always proud about...our beautiful school building....stone benches...sustainable to the core even in those days.low level taps in junior school..open ...airy..we loved it then and love it now!!! On the way to school I always noticed the Gujrat Bhawan building from the bus and always felt it looked like our school...it had to...it was Kanvinde's baby again....later on as an adult.. in my visits saw similar buildings like our school at Ahmedabad. ..Kanpur IIT..now all in focus..designed by ..Mr Kanvinde... We share the Bauhaus legacy...Our beautiful school.where we shared our amazing growing up years.
