The Rum and Ice Story*

The Rum and Ice Story* 👇🏼 Power of Rum In the olden days, most army men used to travel by train as that was the only mode of travel. These journeys used to be long and boring and generally continued for 3 to 4 days. Officers used to travel in first class by coupe so there was a little bit of privacy and a lot of time. They generally used to carry some RUM as this was the only mode of getting a quick reservation on any train and railways staff never expected anything else. The coach attendant and TT were very cooperative and helpful and generally shared the drink. The coach attended and used to look after the faujis well and manage them with food, water, and snacks, coach conductor was generally very very helpful. I remember once we were traveling from Silchar to Jammu. After changing over at Guwahati, it was a long journey to Jammu, The coach attendant was a nice and energetic guy. Since it was hot and humid, we requested him for some ice which he managed in no time. We really enjoyed our drinks almost till 9 Pm. At about 9 PM before dinner, he brought a big chunk of ice stating that this is the last piece and he cannot get it anymore. Since it was dinner time, we did not pay much attention to his words. The next day we again requested him for some Ice, He looked a little sceptical and said he would try. Surprised, I asked him 'yaar , what happened, yesterday you managed it do easily, but today, you are doubtful. He politely replied, Sir, the dead body was unloaded yesterday night. I can get you ice only if some dead body is gets loaded today also, along with ice so that I can help you, like yesterday The rest of Journey was without any drink *From Forces travel Diaries*
