RIGOROUS HONESTY
Good Morning!!!
God grant me the Serenity
to accept the things
I cannot change;
Courage to change
the things I can;
and Wisdom
to know the difference.
Thy will, not mine, be done.

RIGOROUS HONESTY
Who wishes to be rigorously honest and tolerant?
Who wants to confess his faults to another
and make restitution for harm done?
Who cares anything about a Higher Power,
let alone meditation and prayer?
Who wants to sacrifice time and energy
in trying to carry AA’s message
to the next sufferer?
No, the average alcoholic,
self-centered in the extreme,
doesn’t care for this prospect –
unless he has to do these things
in order to stay alive himself.
TWELVE STEPS AND TWELVE TRADITIONS, p. 24
I am an alcoholic. If I drink, I will die.
My, what power, energy, and emotion
this simple statement generates in me!
But it’s really all I need to know for today.
Am I willing to stay alive today?
Am I willing to stay sober today?
Am I willing to ask for help and am I willing
to be a help to another suffering alcoholic today?
Have I discovered the fatal nature of my situation?
What must I do, today, to stay sober?

Honesty and Recovery
In taking an inventory,
a member might consider questions such as:
"How did my selfish pursuit of the sex relation
damage other people and me?
What people were hurt, and how badly?
Just how did I react at the time?
Did I burn with guilt?
Or did I insist that I was the pursued
and not the pursuer,
and thus, absolve myself?
"How have I reacted to frustration in sexual matters?
When denied, did I become vengeful or depressed?
Did I take it out on other people?
If there was rejection or coldness at home,
did I use this as a reason for promiscuity?"
~~~~~1. TWELVE AND TWELVE, P. 50-51
"Let no alcoholic say he cannot recover
unless he has his family back. This just isn't so.
His recovery is not dependent upon people.
It is dependent upon his relationship with God,
however, he may define Him."
