Devi Maa Akhilandeshwari
Devi Maa Akhilandeshwari was said to have “Ugram”, fierce in her form at the temple of Thiruvanaikal.
Her vibrance, energy was too intense for any human to withstand.
Devotees who went to have her darshan could not stand her fierceness.
To calm her down, Sri Adi Shankaracharya placed a pratima of Ganapathi in front of Devi in the hope that seeing her son in front of her would have a calming effect.
He also adorned the ears of Devi with ear-rings called Tatankas with the Sri Chakra inscribed on them.
Devi Akhilandeshwari is the presiding deity in the Jambukeswarar Temple in Thiruvanaikaval along with her consort Shree Jambukeswarar, Lord Shiva.
