In Kaliyuga, who is the main Hindu deity who should be worshipped? Why? Kali yuga is the age of darkness where dharma will decline significantly. Poor people will be oppressed by rich and bad people. No one will speak the truth. No one would want to help each other and there will be competition everywhere regarding everything. But just like no matter how dark it is, when you light up a Dia or lamp the darkness is gone, you can be like a lamp in this age of darkness by following the path of dharma. You can pray to any god you want. Definitely to your Eshta deva/devi. Lord Vishnu is responsible for maintaining dharma on earth. He is the brightness in this universe. Praying to Lord vishnu helps you in the process of self realisation and makes you follow the path of Dharma. You start to get a sense of what’s right and what’s wrong. True Vishnu devotees are never face any problem, or if they do they can solve it very easily. In Vishnu sahasranamam’s Phalshruti it says: Vedan-tago bramhana-syat kshatriyo vijayee bavet Vaisyo dhana-samru-ddhasyat shhoodra sukha mavap-nuyat Meaning: Brahmins get more knowledge, Kshatriyas get victory in war, Vaishnavas get prosperity, and Shudras get Happiness. Na vasu-deva bhakta-nam ashubham vidyate kvachit Janma mrithyu jara vyadhi bhayam naivapa jayate Meaning: Vasudeva Bhakts or Vishnu devotees do not fear death. They conquer the birth-death cycle, fear and disease. This is the primary goal of our soul to get free from birth-death cycle. Na krodho na matsaryam na lobho na shubha-matih Bhavanti kruta punyanam bhakta-nam puru-shottame Meaning: A Vishnu Bhakt is never caught by anger, binding, jealousy, or any inauspicious event. Such a bhakt becomes “Punyatma” and merges into puroshottama (which is lord vishnu). And finally… Vishve-shvara majam devam jagatah prabhu mavyam Bhajanti ye pushka-raksham nate yanti para-bhavam Na te yanti para-bhavam om nama iti Meaning: Never will defeat attend on a man who adores the Lotus-eyed One, who is the Master of all the worlds. Who is birthless, and out of whom the worlds have originated, and into whom they dissolve. As you can see that lord Vishnu provides you with fame, good karma, and dharma. He will always protect you from the darkness of this world by lighting the lamp of Bhakti in your heart. So I recommend you pray to your Eshta deva/devi, but also to Lord Vishnu in this age of Kali Yuga. Edit: Wooow!!! I never expected 51 up votes!! Means a lot to me. Thank you guys! Edit 2: I will add a beautiful comment I got from Piotr Pandawski ŚB 11.5.32 कृष्णवर्णं त्विषाकृष्णं साङ्गोपाङ्गास्त्रपार्षदम् यज्ञैः सङ्कीर्तनप्रायैर्यजन्ति हि सुमेधसः ॥ ११.५.३२ ॥ kṛṣṇa-varṇaṁ tviṣākṛṣṇaṁ sāṅgopāṅgāstra-pārṣadam yajñaiḥ saṅkīrtana-prāyair yajanti hi su-medhasaḥ Synonyms kṛṣṇa-varṇam — repeating the syllables kṛṣ-ṇa; tviṣā— with a luster; akṛṣṇam— not black (golden); sa-aṅga — along with associates; upa-aṅga — servitors; astra — weapons; pārṣadam — confidential companions; yajñaiḥ — by sacrifice; saṅkīrtana-prāyaiḥ — consisting chiefly of congregational chanting; yajanti — they worship; hi— certainly; su-medhasaḥ— intelligent persons. Translation In the Age of Kali, intelligent persons perform congregational chanting to worship the incarnation of Godhead who constantly sings the names of Kṛṣṇa. Although His complexion is not blackish, He is Kṛṣṇa Himself. He is accompanied by His associates, servants, weapons and confidential companions. This verse is talking about Sri krishna chaitanya mahaprabhu and his associates (like nityananda prabhu, haridas ji, and other great Vaishnava associates)
