How come Kunti became pregnant with Karna by just wishing a child from Lord Surya? Is there any hidden metaphor or philosophical explanation of this incident? Blessing : Pleased by her pious nature ; Sage Durvasa blessed Kunti with a sacred mantra from Atharveda. This mantra had immense power to attract any man , woman and deity ; when used with intensity. Rare : It was a rare mantra blessed by none other than Sage Durvasa-known for his mercurial temper. Learned sage had asked her to use it only during appropriate time and place. Caution : But, Sage Durvasa asked her not to test this sacred mantra. Curiosity : After a while ; curiosity overtook Kunti who decided to test it. Legend : According to a legend ; she saw mighty Surya Narayan (Sun) and chanted this sacred mantra. Attraction : Well, Lord Sun got attracted with this mantra and fell in love with innocence of Kunti. His rays fell on Kunti and she became impregnated with child of Surya. Being unwed ; she left her infant at the banks of Ganga who later became Karna, her eldest son.
