Rishi Sunak

There is tremendous hype about Rishi Sunak being

selected as PM of Britian; which makes many Indians proud and happy.

However , how many of us know that Leo Varadkar, the current Prime Minister of Ireland is of Indian descent? His parents are from Vasai, near Bombay.

As late as 2003, Leo completed his internship at KEM Hospital, Bombay.

His mother is an Irish lady and his father an Indian  from Vasai, a suburb of Bombay, in Thane District of Maharashtra.

Leo has won a second term as PM. He is also gay in a country which is more than 90% Catholic.

Antonio Costa the current Prime Minister of Portugal is also of Indian descent, born to parents from Goa.  Unfortunately, many of us in India do not know of Antonio at all.

Both these Prime Ministers are into their respective second terms but unfortunately the Indian Press and Public are ignorant of and do not celebrate the achievements of these sons of Mother India.

What is it that makes Rishi Sunak different from these other two Prime Ministers of Indian origin whose connection with India is much closer than Rishi Sunak's ?

Significantly, Antonio Costa still holds  Overseas Citizenship of India.

Leo Varadkar frequently visits Bombay and Vasai where his close relatives live.

Hope the Indian Press and Public take cognizance of and pride in these two Prime Ministers of Indian origin as well.

This’s the article by Mr Mohandas Pai on Rishi Sunak

This’s the article by Mr Mohandas Pai on Rishi Sunak

——————

“But we need to temper our enthusiasm and joy with the understanding that Rishi Sunak is a British Indian. He very clearly holds his loyalty to the UK, and he will do everything in his power to improve the quality of life for the people of the UK. India cannot expect and should not expect any favours to be shown to India or anything to be done out of the ordinary for India.
He is already on record saying that the relationship between UK and India must be two-way. He wants to see more British companies in India and more British students studying in India, which is very right. He stands up for the UK, and he wishes to see the UK do much better and create a better quality of life for the people of the UK. That's the way it must be.
India can also expect the British media, which is inherently racist across its various outlets, will try to go after Rishi Sunak after the brief honeymoon period, on grounds of ethnicity and his being an Indian. They will keep a keen eye on how he deals with India.
So, India should expect that Rishi Sunak will be harsher on India, in many matters. India should not expect any concessions from any country.
Trade, today, is a discussion and agreement between countries of equal standing. There is no need for India to seek any favours from any country. India is now a $3.15 trillion economy having overtaken UK.
India is mature enough to understand that when a person of Indian origin becomes the leader of the government of a foreign country, India can expect nothing more than what would be in the normal course of events.
Young PM with the old king
One of the small fragments of history would be interesting. When Queen Elizabeth became queen on the sad demise of her father, Churchill was employed as a PM of the UK, having come back to power. The UK had a very young queen after the destruction of the Second World War and the destruction of the world order and the creation of a new post-war world. A very senior political leader, who was essentially jingoistic and believed in the imperial greatness base of Great Britain, was the PM.
Today, we have the reverse. At 42, Rishi Sunak is the youngest PM that the UK had in 200 years. At 73, Prince Charles is a very senior King, to advise this PM on many issues concerning the nation.
It'll be interesting to see how this arrangement today works. But whatever it may be, it is a great day for the UK, a great day for the world, and a great day for India because it shows how merit must win always, and dedication, hard work, and honest politics should always be rewarded.
Sunak's connections with Infosys' Murthys
I don't think the stake that Akshata Murthy holds in Infosys is a massive concern to anybody. The shareholding has been disclosed. The law was the law for everybody. And she followed the law. They did nothing wrong. And she voluntarily gave it up to pay taxes. As far as business is concerned, I don't think there'll be any discrimination against Infosys or India in the UK.
Thoughts on Sunak
I respect and admire Rishi because he has been very sure in his mind that he wants to do public service. To enter politics after being very successful as a banker and doing public service for a country is the highest job that any person could do.
And he has done that devotedly. He distinguished himself as a Chancellor of the Exchequer. And now he has the role of UK's PM. I am watching from a distance and admire what he is doing and certainly wish him all the best. He has all the qualities of heart and mind to be a great PM for the UK. I only hope that the politics in the UK will allow him to have a good, long term to make an impact on the country.
I have congratulated the Murthys on their son-in-law becoming the PM of the UK but knowing them, they will keep an arm's length distance between the PM of the UK and his personal life, with Sunak. They've been through a very traumatic episode when the UK racist set went after them and I'm sure nobody wants to go through any of this again.”

an Englishman of Indian origin.”-As received

“Jeeves, I have just returned from the Drones, and there is total confusion. The members apparently saw on TV that  some Indian chappie is becoming the PM.”

“Sir, It is confusing no doubt but please permit me to make a correction, an Englishman of Indian origin.”

At times Jeeves can truly make the ganglions jar. I was starting to get one of those headaches which are normally caused by having one too many.

“Jeeves, one is either English or Indian. I have not heard of an Englishman of Indian origin. At times talking to you, Jeeves, please do not take offense, you speak in riddles that makes the brain go numb. Once the numbness recedes, it is replaced by a headache that only one of your 'pick me ups' can remove. I again would like to state, you are either English or Indian.”

“Sir, as we can see, the times have changed, today it is possible to be English but of an origin of another country.”

“Jeeves, again the severity of the head throbbing is increasing. Be kind enough to make it simple.”

After his usual gentle cough, Jeeves went into full flow, “Sir, the incumbent Prime Minister has had parents who migrated to England from India and became English. The PM-to-be was born here and so the sobriquet, an Englishman of Indian origin.”

“So Jeeves, tomorrow a Frenchman who comes to England and settled down here will be English of French origin.”

“Precisely Sir, I am glad you have grasped this complicated issue with such consummate ease.”

“Hold on , hold on, this frog will then have to speak English.”

“Absolutely Sir.”

“So this Indian chappie speaks the Queens English?”

“Certainly sir, I have heard him speak so well, with such good diction that an English man of English origin will be put to shame.”

“Jeeves , once again the head throbs violently . What is this about an Englishman of English origin?”

“Sir, an Englishman whose parents for several generations have been in England.”

Frankly this was getting beyond me. Discussing Newts with Gussie was far easier. “Jeeves come to the point. Will our country be in safe hands?”

“No doubt sir, I have no doubts. The PM-to-be is impeccably dressed and groomed. His tie is knotted with such perfection that one can say that it is flawless. He sports no moustache and above all I have yet to see one accessory or garment having a bright hue that is hurtful to the eye. I can describe in length about his shoes and socks but will stop here. The country is in safe hands.”

“Thank you Jeeves, you put my mind at ease. Please a stiffish whisky and soda. I need to calm the ganglions which are all a-flutter. If you could be so kind.”

“Certainly Sir. I do hope you will not take umbrage at the fact that all pink shirts have been returned to Peabody and Simms. I have retained only the whites.”

The very distant Indian origin of the new UK PM-Elect*

The very distant Indian origin of the new UK PM-Elect*

Rishi Sunak married an Indian girl. Other than that what’s Indian media celebrating about? *Kenya and Tanzania have more to celebrate!*

“Sunak’s maternal grandmother Sraksha, a remarkable woman who grew up in rural Africa and who gambled everything she held dear to give her children a better life.

Born to Hindu Punjabi parents in a remote hut in the heart of Tanzania’s lion country, the Chancellor’s grandmother learned Swahili as a child and considered Africa her home, although her family retained close ties with the India they had left behind.

At the age of 16, she entered an arranged marriage with Rishi’s grandfather, Raghubir Berry, a railway engineer from the Punjab, then working in Tanzania.

In a move highly unusual at the time, this smart, confident young woman persuaded her groom to build a new life in Africa – a reversal of the usual wedding custom of ‘bidaai’ whereby the bride leaves her childhood home to join her husband.

Raghubir found a job as a tax official in his new country and the couple had three children: Rishi’s mother, Usha, and her two younger brothers.

By the 1960s, the family had set its heart on a move to Britain, inspired by Sraksha, who was beguiled by the idea of the land of Oxford and Shakespeare. While immigration rules made the move possible, finances were more of a problem.

Undaunted, Rishi’s grandmother sold all of her wedding jewellery to buy a one-way ticket to Britain, leaving her husband and three children behind in Tanzania in the hope – by no means certainty – that they would one day be able to join her. It was an immense risk to take.

Arriving in the UK in 1966 with no family or friends to greet her, Sraksha made her way to Leicester and rented a room as a paying guest of a distant acquaintance.

Making the most of her head for numbers, she found a job as a book-keeper with an estate agent.

She saved every penny and a year later was finally able to pay for her husband and children, including Usha, then 15, to join her in Britain and begin the family life she had so long dreamed of.

Her vision was the start of a remarkable success story that, with the meteoric rise of her grandson Rishi, is still unfolding.

Usha went on to study pharmacology at Aston University. Shortly afterwards, she was introduced by mutual friends to Yashvir Sunak, a medical student who had recently graduated from Liverpool University and whose upper-middle-class Punjabi family had moved to Britain from Nairobi during his young adulthood.

Usha and Yashvir were married in Leicester in 1977 before relocating to Southampton, where their first child, Rishi, was born on May 12, 1980. Another son and daughter followed.

James Webb Telescope

Aim of webb james space telescope is to find how after big bang early galaxies and stars inside them formed in universe 13.5 billion years ago .

Second to find hibitable extra planets  system of 7 earth like planets orbiting a dwarf red star outside our solar system in  our galaxy milkyway. Some of them  may have water , oxygen and earth like habitable  atmosphere. Now latest james webb telescope sees infrared spectrum whereas earlier hubble could not see infrared wavelength. All objects including humans emit infrared which interferes with infrared wavelength  of stars so james webb telescope operating in space freezing temperature to view  infrared wavelength clearly as earth warmth emits infrared to interfere .We see ocean blue as it  absorbs all colours except blue which it reflects to our eyes. Similarly green leaf reflects green to our eyes and absorbs other colours. So looking as missing colours we find water , oxygen , carbon , nitrogen etc.
Its a known fact that indian astrology was so advanced we discoved sun is center of solar system not earth  as claimed by west. Then they even said sun is center of our galaxy milky was which was proved wrong. Black hole is center of our galaxy milky way and sun has done done 18 revolutions in its 5.6 billion years life. And  5.6 billion years life still remains of sun. There are billions of stars in our galaxy milky way and billions in andromeda galaxy  nearest to  milky way. There  were 100 million galaxies estimated and latest finding is trillion galaxies  in discoverable universe. Universe is expanding so galaxes going far away for even light to reach us.  Galaxies will even collide and our nearest galaxy andromeda will merge with our milky way galaxy. When sun burns and dies  melting up mercury and venus maybe earth can be saved by pushing earth to another further orbit with advance technology billions of years later and we find another sun to support us or find a habitable planet like tappistry 1 system

I asked one of my friends who has crossed 60 & is heading to 70.

I asked one of my friends who has crossed 60 & is heading to 70.

What sort of change he is feeling in him?
He sent me the following
very interesting lines,
which i would like to share
with you all.....
1) After loving my parents,
    my siblings, my spouse,
    my children, my friends,
    now I have started loving
    myself.
2) I just realised that I am not
     “Atlas”.
The world does not rest on
      my shoulders.
3) I now stopped bargaining
     with vegetables & fruits
     vendors.
After all, a few Rupees more
is not going to burn a hole in
my pocket but it might help
the poor fellow save for his
     daughter’s school fees.
4) I pay the taxi driver without
     waiting for the change.
     The extra money might
bring a smile on his face.
After all he is toiling much
harder for a living than me
5) I stopped telling the elderly that they've already narrated that story many times. After all, the story makes them walk down the memory lane & relive the past.
6) I have learnt not to correct people even when know they are wrong. After all, the onus of making everyone perfect is not on me.Peace is more precious than perfection.
7) I give compliments freely &
     generously.
     After all it's a mood
     enhancer not only for the
     recipient, but also for me
8) I have learnt not to bother
about a crease or a spot on
    my shirt.
    After all, personality speaks
    louder than appearances.
9) I walk away from people
     who don't value me.
     After all, they might not
     know my worth,
     but I do.
10) I remain cool when
       someone plays dirty
politics to outrun me in the
       rat race.
After all, I am not a rat &
neither am I in any race.
11) I am learning not to be
      embarrassed by my
      emotions.
      After all, it's my emotions
      that make me human.
12) I have learnt that its better to drop the ego than to break a relationship. After all, my ego will keep me aloof whereas with relationships I will never be alone
13) I have learnt to live each day as if it's the last. After all, it might be the last.
14) I am doing what makes me happy. After all, I am responsible for my happiness, and I owe it to me.
 ☘ πŸ₯’

I decided to send this to many, because why do we have to wait for so long,
why can't we practice this at any stage and age.......
Best wishes for all my
grown-up friends & relatives

What Liz Truss did?

 What Liz Truss did?

Why she had to go?
As I knew it -
She had presented an ill conceived  and non pragmatic interim budget where in she had cut the taxes drastically. This she had not followed it up with any reduction in govt spending. She arrived at expenditure but failed to define receivables. In a budget each rupee/pound/dollar spending should be matched by receivables that means where from you get the money for spending. If there is deficit, how to plug the deficit should be clearly defined. She left 70 billion deficit without telling how to plug it.This is where she erred. She proposed un funded budget proposals.
This had not gone down well with markets. They became jittery. The pension funds and bonds came under pressure.Entire economy went into tail spin invoking wide range of criticism.
She sacked her finance minister, home minister resigned. Two prominent cabinet ministers gone(They denote secretary). She was embarrassed and embattled and Quit…
(Just in context with announcing freebies and subsidies by our political parties without declaring source of funds simply to garner votes is detrimental to our existence in the long run)

Count your Blessings

I counted my years and realized that I have less time to live by, than I have lived so far.

I have more past than future.

I feel like that girl who got a bowl of cherries.

At first, she gobbled them, but when she realized there were only few left, she began to taste them intensely.

I no longer have time to deal with mediocrity.

I do not want to be in meetings where flamed egos parade.

I am bothered by the envious, who seek to discredit the most able,
to usurp their places, coveting their seats,
talent, achievements and luck.

I do not have time for endless conversations, useless to discuss about the lives of others who are not part of mine.

I no longer have the time to manage sensitivities of people who despite their chronological age, are immature.

I hate to confront those that struggle for power, those that ‘do not debate content, just the labels’.

My time has become scarce to debate labels, I want the essence.

My soul is in a hurry …

Not many cherries in my bowl,

I want to live close to human people, very human, who laugh of their own stumbles, and away from those turned smug and overconfident with their triumphs, away from those filled with self-importance.

The essential is what makes life worthwhile.

And for me, the essentials are enough!

Yes, I’m in a hurry.

I’m in a hurry to live with the intensity that only maturity can give.

I do not intend to waste any of the remaining cherries.

I am sure they will be exquisite, much more than those eaten so far.

*My goal is to reach the end satisfied and at peace with my loved ones and my conscience.*

And as per Confucius -

*A GRATEFUL THIEF*

Here is one for a laugh Doc

*A GRATEFUL THIEF*
--------------------------------------------

I am a poor retired Bank Officer. I planned a visit to our native place in Ratnagiri for few days along with my wife..
We have one son and two daughters who are married and living with their family in distant cities.

However, none of them were there to look after our house when we  proceeded on tour.
Therefore, we were afraid that, if a thief broke into our house, the house would be ransacked, maliciously damaged if he rummages through boxes, cupboards and cabinets and the thief could damage our stuff if he gets frustrated at not finding any money.

So, on humanitarian grounds & keeping with my principle of natural justice for the oppressed, I decided to keep one thousand rupees in cash on the centre table and left a small note for the thief :

" Dear Chor Saheb, I Feel really sorry that You have to work so hard at odd hours to earn a livelihood subjecting yourself to so much risks..

I am a  middle class Bank retiree, we live on a meagre pension, which is yet to see a raise despite the rise in inflation.
We don’t have any cash at home. Its unfortunate that of all the luxurious houses You finally took the strenuous effort of visiting our humble house. However, I am afraid that you might have wasted your time, energy & effort.. So respecting your risky profession, I have set aside Rs 1,000/- for you as a working trip gift. There is a piece of leftover cake & half a bottle of wine in the fridge just in case you are feeling hungry & thirsty..

Dear Chor Saheb, If you wish to expand your harvest & have a risk taking appetite i can share some vital info.. on the eighth floor in the opposite high rise building lives the auto rickshaw driver turned state minister, on the seventh floor is the corporator of municipality of a ruling party,  the sixth floor in B- wing is the right hand of a local 'Bhai', on the fifth floor is the house of  Shakha-Pramukh, and on the fourth floor a prominent Hawala dealer.

They have plenty of cash and in case of theft, they are wise enough not to report to the police.

Wish You all the Best.. I wish you a fruitful harvest..πŸ‘ Take care..

A month later, when we came home, I was pleasantly surprised to find that there was Rs.1,00,000/- in cash on the centre table and a hand written note :

_"Thank you my dear poor banker for your invaluable tips.. The mission was successfully accomplished and the harvest has been sweetly fruitful. So, as a token of appreciation I leave Rs 1,00,000/- for YOU to express my heartfelt gratitude. In the fridge i have left a chocolate cake, 1 kg dryfruits & two bottles of black label..I hope You will continue to share more such lucrative tips in the future. Thank You for such valuable intelligence inputs for better economic development of the downtrodden.. Seasons greetings.._ πŸ‘

THE LAST LEG OF LIFE

 *Sunday Story*

THE LAST LEG OF LIFE

You know, time has a way of moving quickly and catching you unaware of the passing years. It seems just yesterday that I was young and embarking on my new life.  Yet, in a way, it seems like years ago, and I wonder where all the years went ? I know that I lived them all. I have glimpses of how it was back then and of all my hopes and dreams. However, here it is, the last quarter of my life and it catches me by surprise !!!

How did I get here so fast ??Where did the years go and where did my youth go??

I remember well, seeing older people through the years and thinking that those older people were years away from me and that I was only on the first quarter and that the fourth quarter was so far off that I could not visualise it or imagine fully what it would be like. Yet, here it is !! My friends are retired and getting grey, they move slower and I see an older person now.  Some are in better and some worse shape than me, but I see the great change. They’re not like the ones that I remember who were young and vibrant.  But, like me, their age is beginning to show and we are now those older folks that we used to see and never thought we would become.

Each day now, I find that just getting a shower is a real target for the day and taking a nap is not a treat anymore !!  It's mandatory because if I don't of my own free will, I fall asleep where I sit.

And so, now I enter into this new season of my life unprepared for all the aches and pains and the loss of strength and ability to go and do things that I wish I had done, but never did.  At least now I know that, though I’m on the last quarter and I'm not sure how long it will last, that when it's over on this earth, it's all over.  A new adventure will begin, I feel !!

Yes, I have regrets.  There are things I wish I hadn't done; things I should have done, but truly there are many things I'm happy to have done.  It's all in a lifetime.

So, if you're not on the last quarter yet, let me remind you that it will be here faster than you think.

Hence, whatever you would like to accomplish in your life do it quickly. Don't put things off too long.  Life goes by so quickly.

So, do what you can today, as you can never be sure whether you're on the last quarter or not.

You have no promise that you will see all the seasons of life.  So, live for today and say all the things that you want your loved ones to remember - and hope that they appreciate and love you for all the things that you have done for them in all the past years.

Life is a gift to you.  Be Happy !!

Remember, it is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold, silver or printed notes or even property.

You may think: Going out is good - but coming back home is much better !!! You forget names - but it's okay because some people forgot they even knew you !!!

You realize, you are never going to be really good at anything like golf - but you like the outdoors.  So, do it.

The things you used to care to do, you aren't as interested in anymore - but, you really don't care that you aren't as interested. You sleep better on a lounge chair with the TV on than in bed – you call it ‘pre-sleep’ !!!  If you enjoy it, just do it. You miss the days when everything worked with just an ‘On’ and ‘Off’ switch !!!

You tend to use more 4 letter words – ‘what’ and ‘when’ ?

You have lots of clothes in your wardrobe, more than half of which you will never wear – but just in case !!

Have an awesome Quarter, whichever one you’re in !!!

*Reflection*

It's not what you gather, but what you scatter that tells what kind of life you have lived.
