Freddie Mercury with his first band, The Hectics, at St. Peter’s Boys School in Mumbai, India, 1958.
The Hectics (1958-1962) was the first band to feature Freddie (then Farrokh Bulsara); the other members were Derrick Branche, Bruce Murray, Farang Irani and Victory Rana. The school group was formed when the five were studying at St. Peter's Boys School, an English boarding school in Panchgani, near Mumbai (now Mumbai), India. The band only played at private events at the school, and they weren't allowed to go outside to look for performances.
Derrick Branche (born 1947, Mumbai, India) would later appear in British films such as My Beautiful Laundrette, and in television series such as Only When I Laugh, The Comic Strip Presents... and Father Ted.
Bruce Murray is currently directing The Music Centre in Bedford, England. His stepson, Guy Griffin, plays with English band The Quireboys.
Victory Rana was a general in the Nepali army, and led peacekeeping troops in Cyprus.
Farang Irani, the group's bass player, joined the family business and runs Bounty Sizzlers, a Pune restaurant.
