Remembering the significant and auspicious contribution of Lord Ganesh :
Mahabharat (MB.Adiparva.1.71-83) describes how when Mahamuni Vyasadev decided to compose the longest of all scriptures, Mahabharat, consisting of the essence of Vedas in over 1 lac verses, he was wondering who would write it as he dictated it? Then Brahmaji appeared and suggested a scribe who alone could do this onerous and almost impossible task - Lord Ganesh!
As soon as Vyasadev remembered Lord Ganesh, he appeared. On requesting Ganeshji to do this task, Ganeshji put a condition that once he picks up the pen and starts writing, he would continue non-stop till the end. And if Vyasadev pauses in between, then he would put his pen down, not to pick it up again!
Hearing this, Vyasadev put a counter-condition to Ganeshji saying that he should not write a single phrase without first understanding its full meaning. And Ganeshji agreed.
So whenever Vyasadev needed a short break, he would compose an extremely complicated and ambiguous verse, called “Koota-Sloka”which would make even Ganeshji think for a while. It is described that Vyasadev composed around 8.800 “Koota-slokas” in the whole of Mahabharat.
In this Mahabharat is contained the crest jewel of all instructions for mankind, the Bhagavad-Gita! All glories to Lord Ganesh, the original writer of the Bhagavad-Gita!
Also Lord Brahma in his prayers called Brahma-Samhita (BS.5.50), wherein he glorifies Lord Krishna in the beginning of creation, describes the special position and contribution of Lord Ganesh for the people who approach him with devotion -
“यत् पाद-पल्लव-युगम विनिधाय कुम्भ ,
द्वंद्वे प्रणाम समये स-गणधिराजह ,
विघ्नान विहंतुमलमस्य जगत्-त्रयस्य ,
गोविंदं आदि पुरुषम तम अहम् भजामि ॥
“I adore the primeval Lord Govinda, whose lotus feet are always held by Lord Ganesh upon the pair of tumuli protruding from his elephant head, in order to obtain power for his function of destroying all the obstacles on the path of progress of the three worlds.”
So, as “vighna-harta” Lord Ganesh has the power to destroy all obstacles on the path of achieving not only mundane prosperity or auspiciousness, but also the ultimate wealth of pure devotion to the Supreme Lord, which is dormant in the heart of all living beings.
So on this most auspicious occasion of Sri Ganesh Chaturthi, one can plead and beg him to remove all the obstacles from the path of achieving the ultimate goal of human life, as explained in the Bhagavat-Gita (BG.18.66) (written by Ganeshji with full understanding) - “To surrender to the Supreme Lord Sri Krishna unconditionally.”
SRI GANESHJI KI JAI!
