The Frontier Mail was one of the most famous Trains of the British Empire. It was flagged off in 1928 from Bombay to Delhi via Baroda and onwards to Peshawar via Lahore abd Rawalpindi. The joint stock companies running it took great pride in its punctuality. However, in 1931, a few months after it's commencement, when it was 15 minutes late in arriving in Peshawar there was a big uproar. Enquiry revealed that Iskander Mirza (later President of Pakistan) the Assistant Commissioner at Nowshera and Rana Talia Muhammad Khan of the Indian Police were having a round of drinks when they had an urge for fried fish. The Frontier Mail was flagged down for an unscheduled halt for the few minutes it took for the fish to be purchased from the first-class restaurant car. The matter was, ofcourse, reported and both the officers were awarded 'displeasures'.
