Thanks a lot for this precious information about Madras and our Grand Father
As I remember our dear father narrating few episodes
He said Sri Ramdas Pantulu as Member of Council of States in Indian Parliament under British Rule was invited to attend British Parliament and Cooperative Conference being the leading Cooperator in 1935
Here is an interesting anecdote our father loved to narrate
Justice Sri Bhashyam Iyengar was also invited to attend some conference
All the invitees were hosted Dinner
Bhashyam Iyengar was in Traditional Brahmin Attire
Brocaded Dhoti
Dark Long Coat
Turban
Tilak on his forehead
Churchill puffing away his Cigar sipping whatever he was drinking looked at Bhashyam Iyengar
“ Bhashyam what’s the hurry
You forgot to wear your trousers “
Our man was quick on his repartee “ Sir Winston you British dress for Dinner
We South Indians undress for Dinner “
