Once
upon a time a King dreamt that he experienced a spiritual awakening. In order
to realize this dream, he went to meet a monk based in the lofty mountains of
the Himalayas. The monk ordained the King and asked him to chant ‘Buddham
Sharanam Gachami’ and also added that while chanting the mantra he should not
think about a red monkey perched on his head. The King kept chanting the mantra
but could not cast away the monkey from his obdurate mind. There is a priceless principle in life that whatever we
resist invariably persists in our mind
and thoughts.
The
human mind is perpetually cannonaded by thoughts. Our thoughts shape our
behavioral pattern and interaction with fellow beings. Positive thoughts and
disposition inveigle people with favorable energy which is a pleasant
development. An individual who spews negativity is universally spurned.
Therefore, it is sagacious to embrace positive thoughts.
‘Once
you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you’ll start having positive
results writes,’ Willie Nelson.
A
person endowed with positive attributes focusses his mind on concrete and
substantial results, eliminates needless tasks, maintains humane relationships
with peers and is endowed with a zestful mindset.
Such
an individual leverages his/her strength by carrying the entire team or an organization
on the back and is blessed with 2Es and 4Cs- that is effectiveness and energy,
connected, clearheaded, courageous and confident. A person blessed with such
attributes is not a loner or an ego-centric personality.
Objects
of the mind are created by mind itself. The way we perceive the world
inherently depends on what kind of prism we view it from.
Lionel
Messi is planning an exit after missing the spot kick and presiding over three
successive defeats. The soccer captain of Argentina and world’s singularly most
talismanic player is feeling so wrought that he does not wish to don the
Argentine blue and white stripes. Exiting an excruciating or a crammed
situation appears to be the order of the day. Be it Brexit, Rexit or Mexit, people,
organizations and even countries seem to be bolting away from the scene of
action as the human mind does not appear to be resolute or robust enough to confront
the situation headlong.
We can contrast the exit policy with individuals
who become physical and mental wrecks owing to unhappy situations in life,
pestilence, psychiatric problems or say addictions. A holistic treatment would
encompass medical treatment along with alternative therapies like undertaking the
Art of Living courses, Vipassana meditation, yoga, pranayama, hypnosis or Pranic
healing among others to transform their mindset from an obdurate thought
process to a more pleasant one. Fresh energy is infused in the mind and body
which results in quality healing.
Thich
Nhat Hanh has made a very perceptive observation, ‘The next Buddha may be a
Sangha.’
It
is discernment to establish Sanghas or associations to mitigate the emotions
arising from unwelcome situations. This provides positive energy and aura to
all the participants, in order to transform their minds and thoughts from
negative to positive sensations. Such
positive thoughts assist in preserving and protecting life, synergizing
individual strengths and abilities, developing and harnessing core strengths
and banishing fear and negative thoughts from life and to choosing to embrace
positive thoughts.
The
Alcoholics Anonymous established by Bob and Bill way back in 1935 was also a
form of a Sangha, which has helped millions of alcoholics across the world
through spiritual awakening in the alcoholic and resuscitating their lives by surrendering
to a superior power and abstaining from the consumption of alcohol. This Sangha
had a chain reaction, with mushrooming of several other anonymous associations
where man was addicted to some substance. The mind in such groups is cultured
to expatriate gloom-ridden thoughts and embrace efficacious ones.
Spiritual
awakening, observing deep silence within and blossoming of the feeling of
compassion among individuals, organizations and companies trigger positive endorphins
and emotions which can help in inner re-engineering.
It
is important to believe that though life may not be fair in all situations it evens
out over a period of time. One may be aggrieved with destiny, but cannot be
permanently vexed with the Divine. Atheists and rationalists too need to
develop a faith in the tenets of their philosophy of life or in the power and
potential of their minds without which they would be without a lifeboat.
Rationalists, theists, atheists or agnostics all need to embrace positive
thoughts so that their minds can be harbingers of change.
Humans
should realize that it is never too late to be happy or be blessed with
positive thoughts. Such thoughts are agents for the metamorphosis in their
lives. Time is itself a biggest physical and metaphysical healer. This needs to
be appreciated by a tormented soul. But for this miracle to occur an individual
needs enormous patience and faith. A seeker should unfailingly believe in three
cardinal principles in life; a) miracles do happen b) we are passing through a
good time and the best time is yet to come and c) treat life as a gift which
needs to be nurtured.
The
world will appear as a beautiful rainbow in the sky if we are blessed with
positive approach or alternatively humans end up viewing a chimera if the
aperture in our mind is closed.
A
rainbow is a combination of colors- VIBGYOR (Violet, Indigo, Blue, Green,
Yellow, Orange and Red). This appears in the skies and the human mind is
beguiled and hypnotized by the interplay of the forces of nature.
Likewise,
our minds should embrace a rainbow of positive thoughts; V- victorious, I-
incandescent, B- brilliance, G- gargantuan, Y- a ‘Yes’ mind, O- open and
receptive mind and R- a robust and resolute mind. Such qualities in an individual
endear us to them.
