Dr Devi Shetty, Narayana Hrudayalaya

 Dr Devi Shetty,

Narayana Hrudayalaya

For all my friends....

In the last few years, I have lost at least 8 to 9 people known to me personally, and a few celebrities too, who were in their 40s who died because of doing too much to be "fit". Unfortunately they only looked fit, six packs and all. Today Puneeth Rajkumar gets added to this list.

In anything in life, MODERATION is the mantra. Any extreme of zero or 100 is not correct. A moderate amount of exercise, just about 20mins, eating everything, no detoxification or keto moto diets, just eat what your ancestors have been eating, the local and seasonal food in your hometown, not kale, kiwi or olive oil..., but in small quantities, sleeping a full 7 hours, respecting your body by not feeding it steroids, performance enhancement drugs are all that you need to do.

Just eat all that you ate growing up, in small quantities, exercise for 20mins to 30mins...just a good walk should do perfectly and stop all supplements....if you drink, limit it to a couple of pegs a week, if you absolutely can't give up smoking, a couple a day .. .you get my drift??? Anything but in moderation. Add a bit of silent meditation to your routine. Most importantly, listen to your body. Understand it.

By 40 the body is undergoing a lot of changes, 50 even more, 60 plus your body is starting to slow down, 70 plus, your body is starting to shut down, 80 plus every year is a bonus. So, stop saying 60 is the new 40, 50 is the new 30...no it isn't, if you are 40 or 50 plus, be grateful if you're healthy, slow down so your heart can keep pace, understand retirement has been suggested for a reason, your body and mind cannot take the stress which you once endured. Outwardly you could be looking good, thank your genes but inside, the organs are aging.

If you're 40 + read the above and if you're doing something other than the above, change it, now!! I'm sure you don't want to end up as another statistic.πŸ’πŸ’

Rajinikanth and Bus Driver Raj Bahadur:

Rajinikanth Dedicates Dadasaheb Phalke to Bus Driver Raj Bahadur:

While accepting the Dadasaheb Phalke award at the 67th National Film awards ceremony, superstar Rajinikanth said, “I dedicate this award to my bus driver friend in Karnataka, my colleague Raj Bahadur. When I was a bus conductor, he was the one who identified acting talent in me and encouraged me to join cinema."

Raj Bahadur was earning Rs 400 as his monthly salary then. When he forced Rajini to go to Chennai and join acting school, he didn’t send him empty handed. Every month, he would send Rs 200 which was half his salary to Rajini. Rajini survived in Chennai out of this money for around 2-3 years.

For all the Rajini fans, Raj Bahadur is a known name. A simple, humble man living in one of the lanes in Chamrajpete area of Bengaluru, Raj Bahadur was the guardian angel that pushed Shivaji Rao Gaekwad to become Rajinikanth. It is he, who taught Rajini to speak Tamil fluently.

No matter how big a star, Rajinikanth to his best friend is the same man, who used to have never ending conversations about everything under the sun. Rajini always pays surprise visits to Raj Bahadur’s house. He visits in disguise to avoid public gaze and arrives at wee hours and knocks on the door. No phone calls, no messages, just hops on to the next flight and lands at the friend’s doorstep. Theirs is a friendship of 50 years. There is a room in Raj Bahadur’s house reserved for Rajini.

It is a simple small room with a single cot and enough space for another person to sleep on the floor. Whenever Rajini comes, both friends shut themselves inside the room and speak for hours. Raj Bahadur sleeps on the cot while Rajini sleeps next to him on bed laid on the floor. It has been like this for years. The friend and his family give Rajini the desired privacy.

Raj Bahadur is Rajini’s man Friday even to this day. Whether it is decisions about joining or not joining politics or any personal matter, Rajini never takes any decision without consulting Raj Bahadur. Rajini was the conductor of bus no 10A that plied between Majestic to Srinagar. He lived in Hanumanthnagar and Raj Bahadur, in Chamrajpete. Both areas are close to each other. He had those stylish mannerisms even then. He used to flip the coin while giving to customers and entertain them during travel. Even after all these years, 77-year-old Raj Bahadur has only one best friend and the world calls him Thalaiva. One can certainly agree to this when the superstar chose to thank his best friend on the stage instead of his own family.

During World War 2, a soldier was separated from his unit on an island.

During World War 2, a soldier was separated from his unit on an island.

The fighting had been intense, and in the smoke and the crossfire he had lost touch with his comrades.
Alone in the jungle, he could hear enemy soldiers coming in his direction.
Scrambling for cover, he found his way up a high ridge to several small caves in the rock. Quickly he crawled inside one of the caves.
Although safe for the moment, he realized that once the enemy soldiers looking for him swept up the ridge, they would quickly search all the caves and he would be killed.
As he waited, he prayed, "Lord, please spare my life. Whatever will happen, I love you and trust you. Amen."
After praying, he lay quietly listening to the enemy begin to draw close.
He thought, "Well, I guess the Lord isn't going to help me out of this one."
Then he saw a spider begin to build a web over the front of his cave.
"Hah," he thought, "What I need is a brick wall and what the Lord has sent me is a spider web. God does have a sense of humor."
As the enemy drew closer he watched from the darkness of his hideout and could see them searching one cave after another.
As they came to his, he got ready to make his last stand, but then he heard the leader of the soldiers say:
"you may as well ignore looking in this cave ...if he had entered here this web would be broken!" So they left and he was delivered!
To his amazement, however, after glancing in the direction of his cave, they moved on.
Suddenly he realized that with the spider web over the entrance, his cave looked as if no one had entered for quite a while.
"Lord, forgive me," he prayed. "I had forgotten that in you a spider's web is stronger than a brick wall. He will use the most foolish things in this world to confound the wise!
God is your protector if you believe in him.

*The Sundara Kanda*

forms the heart of Sri  Valmiki's Ramayana and consists of a detailed, vivid account of Sri Hanuman's adventures. After learning about Sri Sita,  Sri Hanuman assumes a  gigantic form and makes a colossal leap across the ocean to Lanka. Here, Sri Hanuman explores the demon's city and spies on Ravana. He locates Sri Sita in Ashoka grove, who is wooed and threatened by Ravana and his rakshasis to marry Ravana. He reassures Sri Sita by giving Sri Rama's signet ring as a sign of good faith. He offers to carry Sri Sita back to Sri Rama, however She refuses, reluctant to allow Herself to be touched by a male other than Her Husband. She says that Sri Rama Himself must come and avenge the insult of Her abduction.
Sri Hanuman then wreaks a havoc in Lanka by destroying trees and buildings, and killing Ravana's warriors. He allows Himself to be captured and produced before Ravana. He gives a bold lecture to Ravana to release  Sri Sita. He is condemned and His tail is set on fire, but He escapes His bonds and, leaping from roof to roof, sets fire to Ravana's castle and makes the giant leap back from the island. The joyous search party returns to Kishkindha with the news to inform Sri Ram with Sri Sita's Chudaamani"

Find your Calling

*Question* - Gurudev, does everyone have to find his calling and how to do it?

*Gurudev Sri Sri* - You have already done it. Your calling has come and that is why you are here at The Art of Living. The Art of Living is nothing but a collective calling of many to uplift the world consciousness. Everyone getting together to make the world a better place. Your calling has come, you have already bought your ticket, you are sitting on the ship and the ship is on the move. See, to achieve something great on the planet, you alone cannot do it. You have to move with the sangha (everyone together), and that is what you are already doing. Just before I came here, somebody was sharing with me how people are now turning to spirituality in Paris and in many other places in France. It is very good news. *Everyone must work together collectively and spreads happiness.*

Swami Vivekananda

πŸ™A Monk of the Ramakrishna Mission was being interviewed by a journalist from NY. The journalist started

interviewing the Monk as planned earlier.

Journalist - "Sir, in your last lecture, you told us about "Contact" and  "Connection." It's really confusing. Can you explain?"

The Monk smiled and apparently deviating from the question asked the journalist:

"Are you from New York?"

Journalist: "Yeah..."

Monk: "Who are there at home?"

The Journalist felt that the Monk was trying to avoid answering his question since this was a very personal and unwarranted question. Yet the  journalist said: "Mother had expired. Father is there. Three brothers and one sister. All married..."

The Monk, with a smile on his face, asked again: "Do you talk to your father?"

The  journalist looked visibly annoyed...

The Monk: "When did you talk to him last?"

The journalist, supressing his annoyance said: "May be a month ago."

The Monk: "Do you brothers and sisters meet often? When did you meet last as a family gathering?"

At this point, sweat appeared on the forehead of the journalist.

It seemed that the Monk was interviewing the Journalist.

With a sigh, the Journalist said: "We met last at Christmas two  years ago."

The Monk: "How many days did you all stay together?"

The Journalist (wiping the sweat on his brow) said: "Three days..."

Monk: "How much time did you spend with your Father, sitting right beside him?"

The journalist looking  perplexed and embarassed and started scribbling something on a paper...

The Monk: "Did you have breakfast, lunch or dinner together? Did you ask how he was? Did you ask how his days are passing after your mother's death?"

Drops of tears started to flow from the eyes of the journalist.

The Monk held the hand of the journalist and said: "Don't be embrassed, upset or sad. I am sorry if I have hurt you unknowingly... But this is basically the answer to your question about "Contact and Connection ." You have 'Contact' with your father but you don't have 'Connection' with him. You are not connected to him. Connection is between heart and heart...
Sitting together, sharing meals and caring for each other, touching, shaking hands, having eye contact, spending some time together... All your  brothers and sisters have 'Contact' but no  'Connection' with each other..."

The journalist wiped his eyes and said : "Thanks for teaching me a fine and unforgettable lesson."

This is the reality today.
Whether at home or in the society everybody has lots of contacts but there is no connection. Everybody is busy in his or her own world. ...

Let us not maintain just "Contacts" but let us remain "Connected."  Caring, Sharing and Spending time with all our dear ones.

                    *****

The Monk was none other than Swami Vivekananda.

What is Guru Kripa?

 What is Guru Kripa?

A wonderful answer!

Money, luxury houses, expensive cars and wealth are not the blessings of Guru.

In this life, many crisis and calamities that disappear without our knowledge, that is Guru-Kripa.

Sometimes, we somehow escape falling, and balance despite the crowded space, on the journey. The balance that saved us from falling, is the grace of Guru.

Whenever it is difficult to get a meal at a time, still we get to eat full of food, That is Guru-Kripa.

When you are buried under the burden of many difficulties, still you feel the strength to face them, That strength is the grace of Guru.

When you're just about to give up and think it's over. Then, at that very moment, you begin to see a ray of hope and you get ready for the struggle again, That hope is Guru-Kripa.

When all your relatives leave you alone in times of trouble, a teacher-brother (a friend or a sibling who believes in a teacher) comes and says to you- "You go ahead, we are with you". The courageous words of that Guru-Bandhu are the blessings of Guru.

When you are at the peak of success, full of money and happiness, even at that moment you feel grounded and humble, That is Guru-Kripa.

Having money, wealth and success alone is not Guru-Krupa, but when you don't have these things, you still feel happy, satisfied and blessed. That is Guru-Kripa.

DNA of Mother and Father

πŸ’πŸ€πŸŒΊWe get 50% of molecular DNA from the mother and 50% from the father.
But we get 100% mitochondrial DNA from the mother. Mitochondria and their DNA only come from the mother to the baby. Mitochondria produce ATP. ATP is the source of energy in our body. So, we receive power from our mother. And our mother gets it from her mother and our father also gets it from his mother.

This is very interesting that in Hinduism the god of power is mother - Adi Shakti or Maa Shakti, our mother. The scientific understanding over the ages and years is very clear.
All the Vedic pujas and yagnas and the perfect mantra of Maa Durga work on a subtle level to excite and empower us. πŸ’πŸ€πŸŒΊ

Wish you all , a Very Happy Navratri. πŸ™πŸ™πŸ»πŸ™πŸ»

Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar ji explains the significance of Devi Kavacham (Navratri Special Chant)

Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar  ji explains the significance of Devi Kavacham (Navratri Special Chant)

The Devi Kavacham is the different names of the Devi taken to different parts of the body. It’s almost like Yoga Nidra but with names because every name has got some quality and some energy, and name and form are very closely related.

‘Kavach’ means armour, It creates an armour around us. The Devi kavacham consists of the Mother Divine’s names that makes an armour around us, around our body. Especially during Navaratris, this is done on all the nine days. It is very important. Sit and listen to it. The protection is anyway there, but the listening somewhere does something – it elevates one’s spirit.

Sometimes you meet some people and you feel like talking to them. You get good vibes from them. Sometimes you meet people and you want to avoid them. Do you know why? The negative vibes around a person make them repulsive. Mantras turn around these negative, repulsive vibrations, into more positive and attractive vibrations. This is the advantage of mantra chanting.

Einstein had said - "Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted counts".

During World War II, lots of fighter planes were getting hit by anti-aircraft guns. Air Force officers wanted to add some protective armor/shield to the planes. The question was where? The planes could only support few more kilos of weight.  A group of mathematicians & engineers were called for a short consulting project.  Fighter planes returning from missions were analyzed for bullet holes per square foot. They found 1.93 bullet holes/sq. foot near the tail of the planes whereas only 1.11 bullet holes/sq. foot close to the engine.

The Army officers thought that since the tail portion had the greatest density of bullets, that would be the logical location for putting an anti-bullet shield.   A mathematician named Abraham Wald said exactly the opposite; more protection is needed where the bullet holes aren't - around the engines.

His judgment surprised everyone.  He said "We are counting the planes that returned from a mission. Planes with lots of bullet holes in the engine did not return at all".

Einstein had said - "Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted counts".

Sharing a beautiful message with you...

Sharing a beautiful message with you...

A man, who regularly attended family & group meetings suddenly, without any notice, stopped participating.
After a few weeks, one very cold night the leader of that group decided to visit him.

He found the man at home, alone, sitting in front of a fireplace where a bright fire burned.

The man welcomed the leader. There was great calm & silence.

The two men only watched the dancing flames around the logs that crackled in the fireplace.

After a few minutes the leader, without saying a word, examined the logs that formed the fire and selected one of them, glowing most brightly of all, and removed it to the side with a pair of tongs. Then he sat down again.

The host was paying attention to everything, fascinated. Before long, the lone log’s flame subsided, until there was only a momentary glow and the fire soon went out.
In a short time what was previously bright light and heat had become nothing more than a black dead piece of wood.
Very few words had been spoken since the greeting.

Before preparing to leave, the leader picked up the useless piece of wood with the tongs  and placed it again in the middle of the fire. Immediately, the piece of wood was rekindled, fuelled by the light and heat of the burning logs around it.

When the leader was about to leave & had reached the door, the host said: ‘Thank you for your visit and for your beautiful lesson. I'll return to the group soon.’

Why is a group important in our lives ?

Very simple:
Because each member that withdraws takes fire and heat from the rest.

It's worth reminding group members that they are a part of the flame.

It's also good to remind us that we are all responsible for keeping each other's flame burning.
And we must promote the union among us so that the fire is really strong, effective and lasting. Keep the fire burning.

*It doesn't matter if sometimes we are bothered by so many messages, quarrels and misunderstandings*.
What matters is to be connected. *We are here to meet, message, learn, exchange ideas or simply to know that we are not alone*

*Let's keep the flame alive.*

*Life is beautiful with friends and family*.

*TWO DIAMONDS*

 *TWO DIAMONDS*

*A Merchant wanted to purchase a camel in the market and after spotting one began to settle for it with the seller!*

There was a long bargaining between the merchant and the camel seller, and finally the merchant bought the camel and took it home!

On reaching home, the merchant called his servant to take out the camel's saddle..!

Under the saddle, the servant found a small velvet bag which upon opening revealed him to be full of precious diamond gems ..!

The servant shouted, "Boss, you bought a camel, but look what came with it for free!"

The Merchant was also surprised, he saw diamonds in his servant's hands which were shining and twinkling even more in the sunlight!

The Merchant said: "I have bought a camel and not the diamonds, I should return it immediately!"

The servant was thinking in his mind "how stupid my boss is ...!"

He Said: "Nobody will know who the owner is!" However, the merchant did not listen to him and immediately reached the market and returned the velvet bag to the shopkeeper.

The camel seller was very happy and said, "I had forgotten that I had hidden my precious stones under the saddle".

Now you choose any one diamond as a reward!

The Merchant said, "I have paid the right price for the camel so I do not need any gift and prizes!"

The more the merchant was refusing, the more the camel seller was insisting!

Finally, the merchant smiled and said: In fact, when I decided to bring back the bag, I had already kept two of the most precious diamonds with me!

After this confession, the camel seller was infuriated and he quickly emptied the bag and began to count his diamond gems!

But after he counted with a heavy sigh of relief, he said "These are all my diamonds, so what were the two most precious ones that you kept?"

The Merchant said: ... "My honesty and my self-respect."

The seller was dumb-struck!

_*We have to look within ourselves to find out if we possess any of these two diamonds.*_

Do you have these two precious diamonds Anymore?

_Anyone who has these two diamonds, *HONESTY AND SELF-RESPECT*, is the richest person in the world._
